Naidu Cabinet: ₹90 crore seed subsidy so ‘not one acre’ dries under El Niño

After a Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on 3 September 2026, Information and Public Relations Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy framed Andhra Pradesh’s monsoon failure as an order to the field: not one acre should dry up because of El Niño, and farmers must shift toward less-water crops.

The rainfall numbers behind that order are stark. State rainfall stands 52 percent below normal. Andhra Pradesh is among the two lowest-rainfall states in the current window. In a normal year about 90 percent of cultivated area would already be sown by now; this year only 60 to 65 percent has been sown. On seed, the Cabinet approved a ₹90 crore subsidy and said 90,000 kg of seeds of less-water-intensive crops are ready. Ministers, MLAs and officials are to visit fields. Fodder is to move through VB-G RAM G. Tank water is to be diverted through G RAM G. Drip irrigation and agricultural-university awareness campaigns are part of the same package. Drinking-water proposals are to cover all 14,829 habitations, with borewells and tankers, and with authority to hire tankers from other states if needed. The State will also seek Central drought assistance. Andhra Pradesh ranks sixth nationally in weather-based crop insurance on the locked brief.

The same briefing rejected rumours of a shift of NIELIT Tirupati, announced a Quantum AI University in Amaravati, and noted that three universities had been approved. Those education items sat beside the drought package in the public readout.

What the locked facts do not establish is a district-wise drought declaration list, a seed distribution schedule by mandal, or a Central assistance quantum already sanctioned. This cutting does not invent them.
