Sunday rains hit pockets of Andhra but seasonal deficit stays 47% below normal across every district

Sunday rains brought relief to pockets of Andhra Pradesh on 6 September 2026, but the seasonal deficit since 1 June remained 47 per cent below normal, with every district still deficient or largely deficient. Directorate of Economics and Statistics automatic gauges recorded more than 50 mm at several places between 8:30 am and 9 pm. Musunuru in Eluru district logged 52.69 mm, the day’s highest in the locked set. Pallamalli in Prakasam’s Chimakurthy area recorded 46 mm; Ipuru and Machavaram in Palnadu recorded 42.64 mm and 42.49 mm; Darlapudi in Anakapalli recorded 42 mm; Rajahmundry Urban recorded 38.25 mm. Pocket highs do not rewrite a statewide seasonal ledger still deep in deficit.

Single-day surpluses in Guntur and Krishna — 388 per cent and 188 per cent — still left those districts at seasonal deficits of about 30 per cent and 37 per cent. The India Meteorological Department’s Amaravati centre described a trough from south Telangana through Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu to the Gulf of Mannar. The Central Water Commission’s Visakhapatnam brief carried a red alert for Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR and Krishna districts. Red alerts on the coastal belt keep municipal drainage and reservoir gate teams on watch even when inland gauges look modest.

IMD observatories recorded 27 mm at Amaravati, 11 mm at Machilipatnam and 16 mm at Bapatla. Maximum temperatures stayed high inland: Nellore 39.2°C (3.8 degrees above normal), Tirupati 39.4°C, Kavali 39°C. Vijayawada Municipal Corporation cleared waterlogging at Labbipeta, a bridge point and Bandar Road under Commissioner Dhyanachandra. The outlook kept isolated to scattered rain over coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema through 12 September.

Development desks should hold the 47 per cent seasonal deficit as the statewide story and the Sunday millimetre list as local relief, not a monsoon recovery claim. Heat anomalies at Nellore, Tirupati and Kavali sit beside the rain list as the same day’s climate file. This cutting does not invent reservoir storage percentages beyond the locked rain and alert set. Money is not the lead here; millimetres and district alerts are. Readers should refuse any invented flood-death toll for Sunday that was not locked.
