Seventeen Jharkhand line workers hurt after a highway overturn near Nellore

Seventeen of 21 Jharkhand workers were injured on the evening of 1 September 2026 when their vehicle overturned on the highway near Buja Buja Nellore in SPSR Nellore district. They were en route to Daggavolu near Balayapalle, in Tirupati district, to shift power lines. All 17 were admitted to Government General Hospital, Nellore.

Collector Himanshu Shukla went to the GGH. He said the contractor would pay ₹10,000 each to 16 injured workers in the orthopaedic surgical wards and ₹1 lakh to one patient in the intensive care unit. Families in Jharkhand were to be informed. Cash assistance was to move on PhonePe. The contractor was told to look after the workers’ welfare until recovery and to make full wage payment.

An inquiry was ordered through DSP Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao, Revenue Divisional Officer Anusha, and labour official Vijay Kumar Reddy. The GGH Superintendent was to ensure recovery measures.
