Surekha to the high command: act against Revanth before you act against me

Endowments Minister Konda Surekha came out of a meeting with All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on 2 September 2026 and went straight at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

She questioned being held responsible for comments by her daughter Sushmita. The daughter, she said, is married and independent. Surekha would neither condemn nor defend those comments. Asked whether she would continue in the Cabinet, she said party leaders had said they would think about it.

She called the show-cause notice a mistake. Written explanations, she said, had gone to Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal. She asked why there was no action on Revanth’s reported “CM for 10 years” remark. “Action should be taken against the Chief Minister before action is taken against me.”

She also asked why no show-cause had gone to MLAs who spoke against her, and said different standards were being applied. She is a Backward Classes Minister, she noted; action against her could be seen as targeting a BC leader. No one had asked her to resign, and she would not step down on her own. There were no corruption allegations against her, she said.

A Cabinet minister attacking her own Chief Minister from Delhi, after a meeting with the AICC president, is not a local sulk. It is a high-command problem. Show-cause notices are the party’s internal discipline tool; Surekha has answered in writing to the four most powerful Congress addresses and then demanded that the same tool be turned on Revanth and on MLAs who criticised her. The BC line is a warning: punish me and it will read as a community slight, not as a comment-row.

For Revanth, a public demand that the high command punish him first is a direct challenge to his control of the Telangana unit. For Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, the written explanations sit on their desks whether they wanted a Delhi sideshow or not. For BC cadre watching a BC woman minister, the targeting warning is the sentence that will travel.

Party leaders “would think about” her continuation in Cabinet is the only process note on her job. It is not a removal. It is not a clean chit. Until the high command says more than it said on 2 September, Surekha remains Endowments Minister, on record against her Chief Minister, and unwilling to resign. The public facts stop there.
