Telangana BJP’s Indira Park Maha Dharna demands sitting High Court judge probe into 22A / Bhu Bharathi land list

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit on 5 September 2026 demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge into alleged irregularities in the inclusion of private and agricultural lands in the prohibited properties list under Section 22A of the Registration Act. The demand was voiced at a ‘Maha Dharna on Bhu Bharathi and Section 22A’ at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad. The protest was led by BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy and attended by senior leaders including Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy.

Addressing the protest, State president N. Ramchander Rao alleged that the State’s revenue administration had “collapsed” and claimed that nearly 50 lakh people were facing difficulties because their properties had been included in the 22A prohibited list. He alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Ministers had acknowledged errors in the system but had failed to take corrective measures, and he demanded immediate removal of all eligible private and agricultural lands from the 22A list.

Mr Maheshwar Reddy alleged that more than one crore acres had been brought under the 22A prohibited list and claimed that affected property owners were being subjected to extortion. He cited alleged problems across districts, levelled allegations against Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, and demanded that minister’s resignation over what he described as a conflict of interest. The BJP demanded a forensic audit of the Revenue Department’s portal logins and a White Paper identifying officials who added or removed properties from the 22A list. It also sought a comprehensive CBI inquiry into alleged irregularities in the present land administration system and alleged scams during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi government. Mr Maheshwar Reddy ended by accepting lemon juice from a farmer the party portrayed as affected by 22A inclusion.

Section 22A tagging can freeze registration and choke sale or mortgage of land. When an opposition party turns that grievance into a capital-city Maha Dharna with a Union minister present, the Political card is the demand list — sitting-judge inquiry, forensic login audit, White Paper, CBI — not a finished court finding that every acre was illegally listed. Land registration politics in Telangana has made Section 22A a street slogan as much as a statute.
