Five of one Bathalapalli family are found dead at a Srisailam choultry in Nandyal district; police suspect suicide, and the postmortem has not yet spoken.

Five members of one family from Bathalapalli village in Sri Sathya Sai district were found dead on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, at Vaddera Choultry in Srisailam. The pilgrim town and the Atmakur police subdivision sit in Nandyal district. They do not sit in any other district. This desk will not move Srisailam or Atmakur out of Nandyal.

Police identified the five as Gogula Adi Lakshmi, 50; Malleswari, 45; P. Sudhakar — also printed Pallapu Sudhakar — 36; Sridevi, 33; and Manikanta, 15. Those names and ages are the police identification on the Tuesday cards. They are not a coroner’s certificate.

One public account of how the five were found says three women were hanging in the bathroom and that Sudhakar and Manikanta were hanging from a ceiling fan in a room. Choultry staff broke open the door after the five were not seen for two days and a foul smell came from the room, then alerted the police. A team led by Atmakur Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramanjaneyulu reached the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem. Relatives at Bathalapalli were informed. Police registered a case and started an investigation. Postmortem is pending on the opened desks. This cutting will not print a confirmed suicide, a named poison, or a closed motive.

The arrival clock is not one clock. One public account says the family had travelled to Srisailam about a month ago and paid daily rent of ₹800, and that when staff asked them to vacate they sought more time citing family problems and special pujas. A second public account says Pallapu Sudhakar came on 28 July 2026 with three sisters and a 15-year-old nephew and took a room at Vadde Satram. A preliminary inquiry on one public account records that Sudhakar was unmarried; that the family faced severe financial distress; that two married sisters had returned after husbands allegedly deserted them over dowry-related issues; and that another unmarried sister was physically challenged. Police on that account suspect mounting debts. A police official on a second public account said preliminary inquiries suggest health problems and financial hardships may have driven them to take the extreme step, and that Sudhakar supported the household by driving an autorickshaw. Those lines are preliminary police suspicion. They are not a court finding. This desk will not convert a debt suspicion or a health-hardship line into a finished cause of death.

Srisailam and Atmakur are Nandyal district geography. Bathalapalli — also printed Battalapalli on some accounts — is Sri Sathya Sai district. The family is from that village. The deaths were recorded at the Srisailam choultry. Form B and any local-body poll date are not notified on a death investigation.
